Looking west from the top of Devils Dyke towards Chanctonbury.

Last Sunday when all my paragliding buddies were getting airborne in the first thermals of Spring, I couldn’t resist setting up my easel and capturing this gorgeous view. Lots of lovely people came to chat with me while I painted. My back pain only lets me paint for short periods, so I had to return several times to complete it. Luckily there have been some good weather windows and on Saturday morning the sun was shining, yay! This piece had to be finished where I started it.

And what a joy it was to keep returning. With the Skylarks singing their hearts out and lots of people around to chat with. Everyone was enjoying being outdoors and on the South Downs. A canine art critic even gave me his vote of approval by cocking his leg on my art box. Luckily he had a bad aim and missed! A band with guitarists and a drummer were practising in the open air just down the hill from me on Saturday too. I’ve never painted to live music before, only birdsong.

Can you spot the two hikers l’ve hidden in the painting?
