Looking west from Devils Dkye. South Downs just north of Brighton. This is my second time painting this gorgeous vista. I started this one a few weeks ago but the weather turned and I had to come back another day. Yesterday was the day. And what a day it was! On went the shorts and t shirt and off went the shoes and socks. Painting in bare feet on long grass is a real treat!

Not long after l’d setup the easel, a group of kids wandered over to check out what I was doing. “Paint us in, paint us in” they pleaded. As soon as I gave in, they plonked themselves down, unprompted, in the perfect spot, in a perfect line, and posed, giggling away to each other. I’m grateful to them for adding infectious life and laughter to this piece. This view is for stopping and staring, for sitting down with your family, friends, loved ones or just on your own and soaking it all in.

I loved mixing all the different greens, so so many! I loved the curves of the distant chalk tracks and the rounded bowls and slopes of the Downs. Let me know your favourite spot to stop and soak in a view.
