Description
Painted at Readymoney Beach, Fowey, looking out to sea on a properly hot summer’s day.
The whole beach had the same idea. People wading in, swimming out, standing about in the shallows cooling off — and somehow the strip of sand was the only place in Cornwall with a breeze coming off the water. I stood in it for a few hours and felt very lucky.
That’s what I wanted in the painting: not just the sea and the light, but everyone in it. People kept stopping to chat while I worked, which is half the pleasure of painting outdoors. Whatever each of them was there for that afternoon, they made it.
Oil on canvas board, A3 (approximately 42 × 30 cm). Painted entirely on location. Signed.
£450 framed in a white wood floating frame
£350 unframed
UK postage included. One of a series of studies painted along the Cornish coast this summer from my catamaran.
