What is a #FoxyExperiment?
When I want to make a change in my life, I ‘sell’ it to myself as an experiment. I can’t remember where or who I learnt this from but it really works. It gives me permission to give something a go and the freedom to change my mind if it doesn’t work. It doesn’t come loaded with permanence or ‘I must get this right the first time.’ It’s a very liberating method to tackle new ideas, habits or ways of working.
One of my current experiments is to share my experiments via the internet. I’d love to hear what’s worked for other people, and what hasn’t worked.
We are all bumbling through this crazy journey of life. No-one has all the answers.
Experiments are a great way to try new ideas and methods and they often lead to better outcomes. Sometimes almost immediately and some times after many months or years. But always in the end! Which reminds me of one of my favourite sayings:
“Everything will be ok in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.” — John Lennon
We just don’t always know if we’ve got the best outcome yet. The answer might not be the one we’re hoping for because often with experiments, it’s the wrong hypothesis or question to start with. But you have to start somewhere and you have to make a decision to make stuff happen. That’s why I love experiments, they help you try things, make decisions and get stuff done.
It all starts with doing.

Love this idea Jonny! A great way to re-frame 😉
Thanks Sarah! Framing change as an experiment has been super helpful for me
